A very old takouba with a European blade marked with astral symbols
This takouba has a slim blade with a large ricasso block.
it is relatively stiff with a single deep fuller.
The hilt is of the old style with a boxy guard and iron pommel.
Holes in the guard show where a decorative brass plate would have been present.
The blade is of a very high quality.
The pommel shows signs of great age.
Due to the age the pommel has collapsed somewhat on the edges.
Overall the hilt is solid and well balanced.
The guard has intriguing geometric engraving.
The blade is an astral or talisman blade from Europe.
The engraved symbols were popular in the 17th and 18th centuries. Including the crescent moon.
The tip of the sword, it does not appear to have been shortened.
Viewed with several large takouba to give a sense of the size of this rather petite sword.
